Fencing Classes and Lessons

Fencing During COVID-19

Fencing is the perfect social-distance sport. A core principle of fencing is to maintain space between oneself and your opponent. Because of this, athletes remain spread out and remain contactless during the course of lessons and matches. Programs can be conducted outdoors or indoors following the necessary COVID-19 protocols. Each individual has their own equipment in order to provide the safest environment for fencers.

Schedule:

I currently conduct lessons on Sundays from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Sessions are 30 minutes in length.

I currently do not have a facility out of which I train, so I am happy to meet at a convenient location. During the pandemic, I did much of my training in outdoor environments such as driveways and garages so I am flexible to meet your needs. This also eliminates the need for drop-offs and pick-ups.

Rates

Individual lessons are $30 for a 30 minute session. Sessions entail three major areas for development:

Endurance

Technique

Strategy

I mainly focus on the athlete's footwork, quickness, and endurance. As an athlete and coach, I believe these to be the most important aspects of fencing. Movement, distance, and speed all play a vital role in scoring, defense, and control.

Technique involves using blades and setting up scenarios to improve hand dexterity, control of the arm muscles, and body coordination. These skills are transferable to both foil and epee fencing. Lastly,

Strategy is what separates average fencers from successful ones. It is very important to discuss the reasons and ideas behind movements as well as the situations in which to use them. Fencing is a very mental sport, and every motion is a piece of an idea being constructed in the mind.
